“What in me is dark illumine, what is low raise and support; that to the heighth of this great argument I may assert eternal providence, and justify the ways of God to men.”
—John Milton, Paradise Lost, Book I. lines 22b-26:
About the League
Do you love the Church? Do you long to see her united, pure, and spotless, a bride adorned for her bridegroom in all her splendor (Ephesians 5:25-27)? Do you strive for peace with other believers and for a holiness that enables you to see the Lord (Hebrews 12:14)?
But are you equally perplexed by the sin and worldly compromise so evident in our witness as modern American Christians? Do you ever wonder “What’s going on with the Church?”
Do you ever ask yourself “What’s wrong with my family?”
“What’s wrong with me?”
If so, and you name the name of the Lord Jesus Christ from a sincere heart, then we are in league with you, believer.
Rather than a typical ministry newsletter containing updates on the goings-on of an individual minister, church, or organization, the League of Believers newsletter is our ministry.
The newsletter is currently produced by a small gathering of two clans of the League family seeking God’s heart and mind on the state of the Church and other topics. We hope in time to host contributions from other believers as well. The content presented here arises from our joint efforts and is for the most part written, edited, and moderated by Garrett League.
We may be few in number, but we are not alone. We’ve been putting our heads together and seeking the Lord. We’ve made sacrifices. We’re asking some hard questions. We’re laying it all down for the Church.
And now, we are sharing what we are discovering with you.
A few notes on feedback
One of the primary purposes of this newsletter is to start a conversation—a conversation between believers and their God, and between believer and believer. As such, we strongly encourage you to provide us your feedback, positive, negative, and everything in between, as well as your prayer requests, which we would be delighted to shoulder with you. You can do this through the comments section at the bottom of each Substack newsletter article or by sending an email to us at:
garrettpleague@proton.me
If you agree, great. But rather than simply shouting “Amen!” please tell us why you agree.
If you disagree, even vociferously, that’s not a problem—as far as we are concerned, we can still be friends.
In fact, we want to go out of our way to hear you out if you sincerely believe we are in error. These are important matters, the most important matters. We are not only open to correction, but we would invite it with gratitude (Psalm 141:5; Proverbs 12:1). But rather than simply running for the nearest sizable rock with which to stone us, please tell us why we are wrong, and please do so from the Bible.

Lastly, to borrow from the Apostle Paul (2 Thessalonians 3:1):
“Finally, dear brothers and sisters, we ask you to pray for us. Pray that the Lord’s message will spread rapidly and be honored wherever it goes, just as when it came to you.”
Thanks, and let the conversation begin.
The story behind the logo artwork
The artwork displayed above and elsewhere on this site depicts an account recorded in Exodus 17:8-13 involving Moses (middle), the high priest Aaron (at Moses’ right hand), and Hur (at Moses’ left hand). Whenever Moses’ hands were up, the Israelites would gain the upper hand in the battle, but whenever he lowered his hands, the enemy would gain the advantage. When Moses grew weary, he sat on a stone and his friends supported his arms so that their people, fighting in the valley below, could prevail.
With the League of Believers newsletter we desire to come alongside our fellow believers to “bear one another's burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ” (Galatians 6:2), so that we can help each other see victory in the hard battles God has called us to fight in our lives and times. The image of Moses, Aaron, and Hur captures these ideals.
